ZomRomCom Book Review
Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I am back with another book review. I fell in love with the cover of this book; I absolutely adore it. So, let's get into it!
In Zomromcom by Olivia Dade, we follow Edie and Chad, or Max as we later find out, as a zombie apocalypse breaks out. Edie decides to go back and save her neighbor, Max but things don’t turn out quiet the way she planned as Max ends up saving her. They soon team up on a mission to warn everyone else who the zombies haven’t reached yet. Oh, and then there’s the tiny little detail of Max being a vampire. Another reason why Edit can’t be falling in love with her neighbor. Of course, easier said than done.
This was such a fun, light-hearted book to read just in time for spooky season. The sense of humor this book brought was definitely unique and witty, but I loved it. I never thought of a zombie apocalypse being a good backdrop for a romance novel, but this strangely works.
Edie’s character is super relatable. She’s just your average, spunky girl-next-door. She brings a lot of humor and kindness to situations which is a perfect balance from Max. He’s all doom and gloom, but as you progress through the book you do start to see Edie rub off on him.
For this being the first book in what I assume is going to be a series based on how the book ends, the world building was done well. We got tidbits of information about the world here and there throughout the book which was nice because information was given when we needed it. It wasn’t overly complicated, and the magical rules, if you will, were easy to grasp. I do hope that for the next book we are reminded of some things. There’s no way I’m going to remember everything.
The only thing I didn’t like was Max. He wasn’t a dark, swoon worthy male main character. He just didn’t do it for me. Even when he would be protective of Edie and save her from the zombies, it still didn’t feel right. I think my issue is that he didn’t really seem that into Edie. Of course, we know from getting her perspective that she’s in love with him and virtually obsessed, but Max is just so chill that their chemistry wasn’t off the charts for me.
It sounds like the next book will be enemies-to-loves which is one of my favorite tropes, so I have higher hopes for the chemistry there.
Overall, I gave this 3/5 stars, and I would recommend checking this book out. It’s such a cute read for spooky season.
Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading :)
