My Weird Reading Habits

My Weird Reading Habits

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I am back with something a little different. I wanted to talk about things I do when I read that have become habitual for me but that might seem a bit weird. There is a trend like this on Tiktok except it's like 'Weird Things I do as Reader' or something like that. Those videos made me think about things that I do or even little subconscious things that I do while reading. So, let's get into it!

  1. I have to read the first 50 pages when I first start a book

I need to be able to get invested in the book the first time I sit down and read it. I'm always afraid that if I don't read far enough into a book then I won't want to pick it up again. Has that happened to me before? I honestly have no idea; I don't know where this small fear came from but regardless, I always read enough to make sure I am invested in the book.

2. I will not stop mid-chapter

This is something I have always done. I can't stand just closing a book in the middle of a scene because what if something happens and I can't pick the book back up again for a couple of days? I feel like it takes so much longer to figure out where I am in the story than if I was at a nice stopping point. Maybe that's just a me problem?

3. I don't read thrillers at night

I feel like this is self-explanatory. Who wants to read about murder and death when it's dark out and the house is all quiet? Not me. This isn't a problem I run into often. I'm not really someone who lays in bed at night reading. I usually read before getting into bed, but this is just one of the things that I noticed I do almost subconsciously.

4. My bookmark needs to match the cover of the book

The need for a my bookmark to match is honestly just me being extra. I like when everything goes together. It's a little thing that makes me happy. Plus, I have so many bookmarks, and I want to make sure that I get to use all of them.

5. I always need to check to see how many pages a book is before I start reading

This is something I have done for as long as I can remember. I use to have to read the last page first, but I actually haven't done that in awhile. I use to have my boyfriend look to see how many pages for me, so I wouldn't spoil anything. While I do use GoodReads, the pages numbers are never accurate which is so annoying. But checking the page count is just something I like to do. I like knowing that information.

One time, I was checking the page count for this new thriller I was starting, and there were only like three sentences on the last page. I looked down at the text and saw who the murder was! I ruined the book for myself; I mean something like this was bound to happen eventually...I was really pushing my luck for a long time. I still read it though...

Alright, everyone that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post! As always, thank you for reading :)
