Thoughts on Kindle Unlimited
Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! I love hearing people say they bought a kindle or were gifted a kindle. It makes my reader heart so happy. In general, I think the Kindle is so worth it. I use to have a love/hate relationship with it, but it’s definitely grown on me. I also had a love/hate relationship with Kindle Unlimited but now having had my kindle for over 3 years, I feel versed to talk about the value of Kindle Unlimited (KU). So, let’s get into it!
Kindle Unlimited is a subscription service that grants Kindle Users access to books for “free.” There is a monthly fee which is around $13; however, you can opt to get the first 3 months free when purchasing a Kindle. You are able to read as many books as you want that are a part of the KU program. The biggest question is, is Kindle Unlimited worth it?
In short, yes.
Especially if you’re someone who flies through books. Having Kindle Unlimited gives such a huge selection of books that you have access to with subscription. The more popular books also switch out. One-two years ago, the Harry Potter series was on KU. Last year the Twilight series was on KU. Even the Fourth Wing series is on KU from time to time. Which is so nice to have changing options especially of those super popular books.
Because there are so many new books constantly released, KU switches out those on their platform. I’m not sure what the timeframe is for that, but I’ve never had any issues with it conflicting with my reading.
Back to when I first had KU, I thought the constantly changing catalog was annoying, and I didn’t like it at all. In the beginning, I couldn’t find anything that I cared about on it, but now that has changed.
There are a ton of indie/smaller authors who are usually always apart of KU. Which makes those hidden treasures even sweeter.
KU is also worth it if you read a lot because the subscription is around $13 which is less than the average paperback book. Just reading one book is significantly cheaper, but if you’re reading more than one book a month then you’re getting your money’s worth.
Even if you weren’t on the Kindle bandwagon yet, the Kindle prices are so much cheaper than buying the physical copy. I have the hardcopy of It by Stephen King which is a 1100+ page book. I didn’t want to carry around such a big book, so I bought the Kindle version for less than $14. The physical copy is close to $20.
I know there are pros and cons to ebooks vs. physical books. I like the occasional physical book, but ultimately having such a large catalog of books at my fingertips that I just need to click a button to start reading is awesome.
Overall, if you’re still not convinced, try the free trial and see how it goes. If you like it then extend the subscription. If not, then no harm, no foul. It was a free trial! But you won’t get the free trial if you’ve already tried it on your account.
Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading :)
