Pet Peeves

Pet Peeves

Hi everyone! Today I want to talk about pet peeves. Now, if you know me, you know that I’m easily annoyed and a bunch of little things bother me. I especially hate when people chew loudly/chew with their mouths open and when people are late. It’s so irritating. But I also have bookish pet peeves. I’ve seen countless BookTokers do videos on this type of thing, so I’m eager to share mine!

Disclaimer: these are in no particular order, they’re all equally annoying.

1. Dog Earing Pages

I hate when people fold the top corner of page. That ruins the book! If I let someone borrow my books, they are not folding anything. You can never get that crease out of the page. Even when the book is closed, you can still notice it. And then it’s the only thing I can notice, and it looks so dumb. Don’t do it.

2. When the cover art changes midway through a series

This never really occurred to me until it happened a little while ago. As many of you know, I love the ACOTAR series very much. When I first started reading it, A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, and A Court of Frost and Starlight all had different covers. There were each a different color with part or half of a character on it. Now, when A Court of Silver Flames came out, the covers all changed. They re-released the paperbacks with different covers. I’m pretty sure you can get the new covers in hardback too; I’ve never seen them, but I would assume so. I don’t like the new covers. It’s like this abstract art with the weirdest color schemes. Not a fan. Also, as a surprise gift, my boyfriend got me a box set of the first three ACOTAR books which all have the old cover, and when I got ACOSF it was the new cover. So now they look weird together! And ACOSF is so massive compared to the other hardbacks. But I’m not buying the series again. I like my little box set.

3. When stores put stickers on a cover and they DON’T come off

I hate when this happens. Barnes and Noble and Target, especially, do this all the time. Trying to get those stickers off without ruining the cover is a nightmare because they NEVER come off cleanly. Then you’re stuck picking off the left-over white stuff. I don’t want to spend an hour trying to take that stuff off. But you can’t leave it on because it looks dumb and ruins the aesthetic of the book! They need to make them easier to peal off.

4. Having a series with paperback and hardback covers

This is something that has always bothered me. The worst part is when you start a series that has been out for a while but it’s not complete, so, you start buying the paperback copies because hello, they’re cheaper. Then when the next book just comes out, its in hardback. It’s so hard to have to wait to pick it up. I have multiple series on my bookshelf where some of the series is paperback and some is hardback. It looks so messy and its not pleasing at all.

5. When I let people borrow my books, and they never give them back

I hate this. I hate lending out my books to begin with because I DO NOT trust people with my books nor trust that they’ll even give them back. Personally, when someone lends me a book, I get super anxious because I want to read it fast so I can give it back to them right away. I don’t want to keep other people’s books because I hate it so much. My boyfriend got me an embosser for my birthday that says “From the library of Maisi McIntyre” so even if someone kept my book just know that my name will be in it forever. But, if it does get to be too long, I always ask when they’re getting to it, or that I want it back so “someone else can read it.” Is that a terrible thing to do? Maybe. But I love my books and I’m very territorial/possessive over things I care about. And I’m sorry if it’s been months since I’ve given it to you, odds are you’re not going to read it.

Alright, folks, thank you for reading this week’s post! Be sure to come back next week for another!
