Malibu Rising Book Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I am back with another book review and who’s surprised to hear it’s another Taylor Jenkins Reid book! I made it a personal mission to read all her books because I absolutely love her writing. So, let’s get into it!
Malibu Rising follows the Riva family. A prestigious, starlet family known in the surfing world. It’s time for the annual Riva party hosted by Nina Riva. All the Riva siblings and every celebrity under the sun are slated to attend. Everyone always looks forward to this party. But not everything is as it seems with the Riva family. And when things come to a head, the party might be the one thing to send it all over the edge.
I absolutely loved this book. As I’ve said in all book reviews for Reid’s books, her writing is so immersive. This felt like a real Hollywood family.
Also, fun fact the father, Mick Riva also shows up in The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. There are some books noted as the “Reidverse” meaning there are small strings connecting all the books in that universe which explains the Mick Riva crossover.
Actually, Mick isn’t the only crossover. In Malibu Rising, we get our first glimpse at Carrie Soto the tennis player from Carrie Soto is Back. I love a crossover and/or easter egg. I think it makes reading an author’s books so much fun.
I really like the Riva family. Despite their parents both being extremely unlikeable, the siblings are very likeable. I like the relationship they had with each other; they looked out for each other, took care of each other.
Honestly, at its core, this is a really sad book. A broken family that seems to have always struggled until they all grew up and were able to survive on their own. And really at the end of the day, your family is all you need.
I loved reading about the family. There are flashbacks showing their parents meeting and what kind of man their father was. Like I said its really freaking sad, but still so worth the read. This was just shy of 400 pages, but the chapters were pretty short. Overall, I gave this 5/5 stars. I would highly recommend it especially if you love Taylor Jenkins Reid books. This is no exception. So good!
Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading :)
