Ice Ice Baby Book Review

Ice Ice Baby Book Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! I’ve been burning through hockey romance books. I love a good sports romance. There’s a whole post on my blog dedicated to the best hockey romance series, but I’m always on the hunt for a new series. Let’s get into it!

I saw Ice Ice Baby by Carly Robyn on Kindle Unlimited, and I’m not going to lie the cover drew me in. I love the cartoon characters on the front cover. It’s so cute. Anyways, this book follows Maya and Cole. Maya works at a bookstore and has closed her heart off to any type of romantic relationship. Having to step into a parent role for her younger siblings and having her heart crushed previously by her ex, she doesn’t think she can handle anything more than friendship.

Enter, Cole, the star hockey player who plans on getting Maya to open up. He’s in no rush but will do everything in his power to get her to go on a date with him. Will Maya open her heart up and trust Cole, or will she push him away to stay in her safe little bubble?

I thought their relationship was cute. Cole was so patient, supportive, and protective of Maya. They were both supportive of each other. It was sweet how they both wanted to learn more about each other. Maya is willing to learn hockey and go to Cole’s games, and Cole picks up reading and listening to Maya talk about the books she’s read.

This is a short read, just a little over 300 pages. It’s on Kindle Unlimited and the first in the series. The characters are easy to love, and the sense of family is strong amongst them.

There were some things that I didn’t like about this book though.

I didn’t like that Maya’s ex was randomly brought up, or at least it felt very random. Especially when he ends up showing up at the party she’s at. That felt weird and too convenient to happen. Also, I did not like at the party, Maya ran away and it honestly felt like Cole was making her open up about what went down with er ex. That was something they should’ve left the party and had a heart-to-heart at home. It would’ve been more intimate, and it would’ve given Maya time to work up the courage to open up to Cole.

There was also a scene where Cole takes Maya ice skating, and overall, I thought it would be more romantic. It didn’t have me giggling in my chair or anything. I wanted Cole to be more touchy-feely, more attentive considering Maya doesn’t know how to ice skate. I don’t know, I just wish it was a cuter scene.

Some of the dialogue was cringey too. Maya was a very sarcastic character, but some of things she said were just flat out weird.

I think overall I needed more from their relationship. It was a cute book, but I don’t know if I will continue the series. I was just left wanting more.

Overall, I gave this 2/5 stars. In terms of hockey romance, I’ve read better, and I would recommend other series over this one. However, I do think this is a cute, fun, and fast read. A really good pallet cleanser.

Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next week for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading :)
