His & Hers Book Review

His & Hers Book Review

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Cover to Cover! I am back to the thrillers. I had seen this book all over my Instagram, and everyone was raving about it. So, let's get into it!

For backstory, this book is about a small town murder that turns into multiple murders. The killer is targeting an old high school friend group; one-by-one they are picked off. The reporter, Anna Andrews, is not looking forward to going back to her hometown to cover this murder, but she learns rather quickly that she could be in danger. The lead detective on the case, Jack Harper, has a eerie connection to the people who are dying, and he soon becomes a suspect in his own case.

I have to say I thought this book was good, but I didn't love it. For some reason, I just couldn't get into it. I've read another book by Alice Feeney before called Rock, Paper, Scissors and I loved it. So, I had some high hopes for this one as well.

The characters were really well written. I thought their development was done really well. I liked the way Jack and Anna interacted with one another, I liked their banter, etc. The dialogue wasn't cringe-y; overall, this book was very well written.

The chapters were very short. The POV would also flip between Jack and Anna, but everyone once in awhile we would get an anonymous chapter from the killer. I really liked that, I liked knowing what they were thinking and their kind of rationale for what they were doing. I thought it added some spice.

There was a lot going on towards the end. It was like "oh so it's this person," "wait no, it's this person..." and so on. There are so many twists that it was hard to realize who actually did it and more importantly why. I'm still not sure if I got everything. But the ending was very interesting and kept me guessing--literally all the way until the very end.

Overall, I give it a 3.5/5 stars. I think it's a nice introduction for getting into the thriller genre, but for someone who reads thrillers all the time it wasn't mind blowing. Maybe I'm more critical of my thrillers now? Who knows.

Alright folks, that's all I have for today! Come back next week for another post! As always thank you for reading :)
