Extracurricular Arc Review

Extracurricular Arc Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! I am so so so so excited for this blog post. A huge thank you to Netgalley and Berkley Publishing for sending me an arc of Rachel Lynn Solomon’s new book, Extracurricular. So, let’s get into it!

Extracurricular follows retired pop star, Ramona Wilder, as she decides to step away from the spotlight and figure out what she truly wants to do with her life. So, she decided to apply for college. For the first time in her life, she is doing something truly for herself.

Enter psychology professor, Nick Navarro, who is recently divorced and trying to put his life back together. When he hears Ramona Wilder will be in his classes, he’s skeptical at first and worried that this is just a PR stunt. As they get to know each other, he realizes that it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Friendship slowly turns into something more. Nick craving to be wanted, needed and Ramona craving a normal and safe life. Both have to decide what risks are worth taking and is love worth taking the biggest risk for?

When I say I loved this book and will think about it for the rest of the year and couldn’t stop smiling the whole time I was reading it…I’m so serious. This was everything. Each Rachel Lynn Solomon book gets better and better.

Ramona and Nick are easily my favorite bookish couple. I’m obsessed with their chemistry. They way they were so gentle with each other, and truly loved learning about each other. It was so swoon-worthy. The way Ramona instigates Nick, and Nick just follows her lead. Both are completely obsessed with each other. They both give each other exactly what they’re looking for without even meaning to at first.

And don’t even get me started on the spice…. just know it’s so good.

This book has something I don’t see too often which is no third act breakup. I absolutely love when there is no third act break up. It takes away some anxiety from reading even though we all know there will be a happy ending, but still. Personally, it give me more comfort while I’m reading.

Also, I loved the way everything was wrapped up at the end. Nothing felt rushed; the pacing was absolute perfection. I loved getting both Ramona and Nick’s pov. Nick’s pov was absolutely everything.

Nick Navarro needs to be protected at all costs. Seriously. He was one of the best, sweetest MMC I’ve ever read.

I gave this 5/5 stars and highly highly recommend!!

Extracurricular is out July 14!

In the meantime, check out other work from Rachel Lynn Solomon like What Happens in Amsterdam and Weather Girl!

Things I loved: the chemistry between Nick and Ramona, Nick’s slutty little glasses AND earring, protective Nick

Tropes: Celebrity romance, age gap, dual pov, black cat v. golden retriever, no third act breakup

Microtropes: He takes care of her while she’s sick, “fuck it,” he washes her hair.

Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next week for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading :)
