Do Not Disturb Book Review

Do Not Disturb Book Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I am back with another book review. Now, everyone raves about Freida McFadden but having read more of her books I have found out that she is really hit or miss for me. So, let’s get into it!

Do Not Disturb follows Quinn Alexander as she’s on the run for murdering her husband. She gets caught in a bad snowstorm and stops at the isolated Baxter Motel. The owner Nick Baxter is super nice, very attentive, but feels like he’s hiding something. Without any other options, Quinn stops for the night for a room. What’s the worst thing that could happen?

Like I said above, Freida McFadden is really hit or miss for me.

This one was a miss. It was so boring, the main character, Quinn, was so dumb. She made the dumbest decisions. Plus, the writing seemed so juvenile.

Granted, this book was only like 280-ish pages, I just feel like while it was straight to the point, I hated the characters. Quinn and even her sister were so annoying. I will say halfway through the book when we switched point of views, it was an interesting turn. Not exactly surprising but it definitely made things interesting.

I also think the whole thing with Nick and his wife was unnecessary. The creepy motel would’ve been creepier if it was just creepy for no reason. Nick could’ve added more if he was also just creepy for no reason. His part and his wife’s part—I didn’t really get it. The wife’s POV was also not needed. If McFadden wanted to make the book longer than there should’ve been more about Quinn killing her husband or more of a battle when we’re switching point of views, etc. A totally different direction would’ve made the book so much better in my opinion.

It's a very short book with really short chapters. It’s a quick read which was really nice. But this is the third Freida McFadden book out of five that I’ve read that I didn’t love.

Overall, I gave this 2/5 stars. This was not my favorite from McFadden at all, but if you’re looking for a reason to read The Housemaid this is it. That book was really good and engaging.

Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading :)
