Carrie Soto is Back Book Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I am back with another book review. Taylor Jenkins Reid has become one of my favorite authors, and so I, of course, need to read everything she writes. Carrie Soto is Back has been on my list for some time. So, let’s get into it!
Carrie Soto is a national tennis star. No one in women’s tennis has ever seen talent like hers until Nicki Chan. Soto is watching Chan play in the 1994 US Open. Chan takes over Soto’s record of twenty Slam titles. Soto being the aggressive player she is, will not stand for someone being better than her. So, at thirty-seven years old, she comes out of retirement to claim her record back.
I absolutely loved this book.
I love how immersive Reid’s writing it. The characters are so consuming. As a reader, I had no idea whether I loved or hated Carrie Soto. She was hard to like at first, but I think that’s just a sign of great writing. Although you may not like Soto, you’re rooting for her the entire time. You want her to claim her record back.
There won’t be any spoilers in this post, so I won’t say if she gets her record back or not. I do have to say though, I loved reading about Soto’s journey. She’s an aggressive player, but she works hard, she puts so much effort in, she wants to win and be the best. Is she the most likable person? No. Is she one of the best tennis players ever? Yes.
We also get her entire story, so while the book opens up to the match that pulls Soto out of retirement, we see her father coaching her, how she fell in love with tennis, how she rose to fam and started to dominate the tennis world. It was so interesting to read.
This book falls a little over four hundred pages. The chapters weren’t very long. It’s a very easy read. The timeline is very easy to follow.
I gave this 5/5 stars. It was truly so amazing.
Overall, I highly recommend it! This book and any other Taylor Jenkins Reid books. Her books are so well written, and it makes you feel like these are real people. I feel like Carrie Soto is a real tennis player. Phenomenal.
Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading :)
