Windy City Series Review
Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I am back with a series review. I have always seen this series pop-up on my 'for you page.' Everyone raves about it and per usual it takes me a while to pick up a popular book. I'm a sucker for a sports romance, and since this series was on Kindle Unlimited, I decided to give it a chance. So, let's get into it!
There are 5 books in the Windy City Series by Liz Tomforde.
- Mile High
- The Right Move
- Caught Up
- Play Along
- Rewind it Back
Rewind it Back is the newest and last addition to the series. But let me start at the beginning.
Mile High follows Zanders, a hockey player, and Stevie, a flight attendant on the team's plane. Zanders comes off as cocky, the guy who has it all. Stevie is trying to make ends meet in this new city. She doesn't want to accept any handouts from her brother. Zanders is determined to get her to quit but he can't resist her determined attitude. Or it may be because she's the only girl who doesn't fall at his feet. Stevie is determined to stand her ground because her job's biggest rule is to not fraternize with the guys.
I do have to say this was my least favorite book in the series. I think that's a common consensus among readers too. I still really enjoyed the book, I just like the other couples in the series better. I gave this 3/5 stars.
Next is The Right Move, and its my favorite. Indy is Stevie's best friend, and after going through a horrible break-up she needs a place to stay until she can get back on her feet. Enter Ryan, Stevie's brother who happens to have a vacant room in his fancy apartment. Indy is also a flight attendant for the Chicago hockey team, so it's not like she's going to be home a lot anyways.
Plus, Ryan is a huge NBA star. He travels a lot too. But when he needs to become more of a guys guy and open up to the team what better way than to get a fake girlfriend? Forced proximity meets fake dating.
I LOVED this one. It's the best out of the entire series. I loved the chemistry between Ryan and Indy. I thought they were so cute. Their love story was so relatable and was so graceful. They really cared for one another.
Third is Caught Up, and we are switching gears again because this is a baseball romance. We follow Kai, who is a single dad and the best pitcher in the MLB league. However, Kai has been flying through nannies. No one seems to be good enough for him. His coach doubles down, and makes Kai hire his daughter, Miller.
Enter Miller Montgomery who never settles down and is always on the run. She has the summer off and wanted to spend time with her dad. She agrees to babysit Kai's kid, and of course the two end up falling for each other.
I loved this book as well. I liked the baseball aspect because I feel like there are not many baseball romance books. I love Kai and Miller together. She helps him and makes sure he's still there for the bog moments like his son's first steps, and Kai wants Miller to achieve her dreams. They were so cute together.
Fourth is Play Along, and this is my second favorite. It gave The Right Move a run for its money though. In Play Along, we're still hanging around the Chicago baseball team because we follow Kai's brother, Isaiah. Isaiah has been obsessed and crushing hard on the team's athletic trainer, Kennedy. Kennedy is focused on her career, as she works in a male dominated field. Plus, her boss is sexist. She's determined to prove herself and that means no fraternizing with the guys.
One wild night in Vegas, and Isaiah and Kennedy wake up married. When the lies become too many, the two agree to stay married for one season, just long enough to keep Kennedy's job safe. Easier said than done though.
Lastly we have Rewind it Back. Throughout the entire series, we have come to love Rio DeLuca. The guy who just wants to find his person like all his friends have. Enter Hallie Hart, Rio's childhood crush and sweetheart. The two fall in love when they were just neighbors way back when, but their relationship ended and the two haven't seen or spoken to each other in six years.
Until they both end up in Chicago, living right next to each other again. Hallie is an interior designer, and Rio accidentally requests her to work on his house. Of course, that ends up being a huge problem for both of them, but Hallie needs this job. She needs to prove herself at her internship. Rio agrees as long as they don't fall back in love. Again, easier said than done.
Rio is such a big sweetheart. I'm so glad we finally got his story. I loved the chemistry between him and Hallie. It was cute being able to see their relationship when they were younger and then seeing them in present time. I liked the parallels.
Overall, I give the last four books 5/5 stars. I absolutely loved them. After reading Rewind it Back, we learned that for the next series will be following Wren (Rio's neighbor/Hallie's roommate) as she heads back home. Her brothers just happen to be professional athletes ;). I can't wait for the next series.
I highly recommend the Windy City series. These books are such fun and easy reads. I couldn't put them down. If you love sports romance then you'll definitely be a fan.
Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading :)
