Daisy Jones & The Six Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! This book has been on my TBR for such a long time, and I finally decided it was time to dive in. I've read multiple books from Taylor Jenkins Reid already and loved them. Especially, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. So, let's get into it!

From GoodReads, in Daisy Jones & The Six, "Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock ’n’ roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things."

We also follow a band led by Billy Dunne known as The Six. Before leaving for tour, Billy's girlfriend tells him she's pregnant. Billy never having had a father figure spirals out of control. He goes wild on the road.

Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes how good they would sound together. Each of them is missing something and together that could be the missing piece. When the two come together, its electric and legendary.

First, I would like to note that this is written in an interview style. The entire book. If you don't like that then you won't like the book. I didn't mind it. I honestly liked hearing the story from Billy and hearing the same story from Daisy. It really emphasized the whole "three sides to every story."

I also loved how immersive the writing was. I felt like I was actually reading a book about a band from the 60s-70s. The writing was incredible, and Taylor Jenkins Reid always does such a great job of inserting her characters into a time and place. I can't imagine the research she does. There were also song lyrics in the back of the book from the band, how cool is that!

Daisy and Billy were so heartbreakingly real and sad and heartbroken. Billy was constantly struggling and at a war with himself, and Daisy was the free bird who did whatever she wanted, but she didn't have limits. To see two very similar but opposite people write intimate songs was so cool. I loved the relationship Reid created for them. As a reader, you were rooting for them the entire time even though you know it would be catastrophic if they got together. You're gripped the entire time in a "will they, won't they" dialogue.

But you're also rooting for the characters as their own person to overcome their struggles. You want Daisy to get her life together, you want Billy to get a good father, you want the band and Daisy to work out. It's easy to root for these characters.

It's a short read too, a little over 300 pages. Plus, with the interview style I feel like I flew through this.

There's also a nice little twist at the end as well ;)

Overall, I gave this 5/5 stars, and I still can't stop thinking about this book.

I also highly recommend reading the book and then watching the limited series on Amazon Prime. The tv show is about 10 episodes and follows pretty close to the book. There are changes, but honestly, I thought it was so well done. Plus, getting to hear the songs is so cool and for that alone I recommend! Even listen to the tv show soundtrack!

Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading :)
